August 25, 2016The UNESCO International Conference on Prevention of Violent Extremism through Education is an international event that aims to build a common understanding among policy makers on the interventions needed for education systems to prevent violent extremism.
Organized by the UNESCO Headquarters and the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development, this international conference will take place at the Peacock Convention Centre, Hotel Novotel New Delhi Aerocity, New Delhi, India on September 19-20, 2016.
UNESCO is convening this international conference in line with “Decision 46” that was approved by the UNESCO Executive Board regarding “UNESCO’s role in preventing violent extremism through education.” The conference’s aim is also in line with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism.
Participants of this event will primarily be senior education officials responsible for or engaged in initiatives related to the prevention of violent extremism. Experts and representatives from the youth sector, CSOs and IGOs are also expected to attend this international event.
