Iceland is a model in many areas, whether environmental or economical. For the 10th consecutive year, the country maintains its first position on equal pay, according to the Global Gender Gap Index published by the World Economic Forum in November 2017. One of the reasons for this top ranking is the recent parity law adopted last March which requires companies to prove by 2020 that women earn the same salary as their counterparts for the same job, otherwise, companies will have to pay a fine. Currently, the difference in pay is still 14 to 18% less for women in Iceland.

In the top 10, Finland is in second place, followed by Norway and Rwanda. France, which was in 17th place, has moved up to 11th this year according to the World Economic Forum. Iceland is also in the lead on parity for access to education.
